After the state House voted for the same bill earlier this month, the state Senate voted today to ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy based on the science showing unborn children feel pain at that point.

The Senate approved the pro-life measure on a 25-7 vote Monday after tacking on an amendment that would allow such abortions in cases of rape or incest in addition to the one the bill already contained that excepted the life of the mother.

Gov. Mike Beebe has said he has constitutional concerns about the proposal though he has not indicated yet if he will sign or veto the measure.

As an attorney, it is a mystery to me that some members of SCOTUS cite to foreign law as binding authority over American citizens and controversies, yet at the same time fail to acknowledge these crucial words of our Founding Document: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." If anything is binding on American Courts, this single sentence, with its reference to our God as the font of authority, and its placement of the inalienable Right to Life in the paramount position, should bind every American court.

On a Sunday talk show, as reported by the Illinois State Rifle Association, police Superintendent Garry F. McCarthy said that firearm owners who lobby their representatives, or who donate money to political campaigns, for pro-Second Amendment issues are guilty of corruption and of endangering public safety.
