Because each post has graduated from doctor school and you gotta use titles or they get pissy.

It's just the new posts that need titles. Comments to existing posts won't need titles. A new post starts a new thread. We need a title so it'll show up on the latest posts page or anywhere we need a title. Search for example (when we get one). Also, you never know when a simple post goes viral and turns into an endless thread. Then you need a title to click to read the non dead thread. That said, you can leave the title blank if you wish. The posting program will insert one for you: [no title]. Just to give us something to click if we wish to read the thread.

As you see, I've already learned to type with a Scottish burr. :)

It's kind of fun being part of a work in progress, as it were. This is probably sort of what y'all went through in the beginning of FRee REpublic, too. :)

We had two major problems during the first year or so of FR. Italians and trolls. We didn't have an HTML validator and if a poster forgot to close his tags, we sometimes had colorful bold italics running down the following posts of a thread until someone figured out which closing tags were missing and posted them. We also didn't have a registration system and so were on the honor system. That didn't work well with trolls. Especially after they started hijacking other posters' screen names.

That had to be a pretty challenging time for the mods. I know some of the troll posts were embarrassing on the threads! Glad those days are past.

Yeah, we didn't have moderators or an abuse reporting system during the first couple of years and didn't even have a way to edit a thread or delete posts. About the only option I had was to delete entire threads. No database in those days. Each thread was its own html file.

By the way, edited your home page banner area html above. It needed a closing center tag after the image.
Hope to have an html validating routine in eventually to automatically fix that sort of thing.
