What a good idea.

Jim Robinson:
Some of this won't make any sense until we're able to use html in our posts.
02/19/2013 11:2:54 PST ·
humblegunner:
Most of the folks that'll eventually be here will have been exposed to basic HTML already, via the FR main site.
I reckon some of the tutorial material will be geared to MyFRpage-specifics RE what will work and where.

That list is looking good. This site will indeed be a reach for those of us (including me) who have grown accustomed to wysiwyg. I think it's a good reach.

Jim will there be a "reply to" function?

yes, and ping lists. tags too.

How about FReepmail or equivalent? A PM function.

If we have a like button - what about a hate button?? just kidding - (sorta)
02/19/2013 12:0:48 PST ·
Jim Robinson:
Well, there will be an unlike. Hate is a strong word. Acually, unlike removes your previous like.
02/19/2013 12:3:24 PST ·

Now THAT'S a todo list. I understand maybe a quarter of it, if that.

Toyed around with the idea of a "Dislike" button, ie, a boo button. But that's kind of overkill.

I need to get rid of the italics whenever I post an article.

As it is right now, it's doubtful I will have the most posts here, and that is a GOOD thing.
02/19/2013 12:29:5 PST ·
Jim Robinson:
I'm hoping John can help me with a routine to strip them out and replace them with normal characters before they're posted. I believe they are Miscrosoft Word "smart characters" that are embedded in the text for quotes, apostrophes, long dashes, "thin spaces," etc, and they don't work very well when cut and pasted to forums and web pages like this. In the meantime, all we can do is edit them out manually. Google search: "Microsoft smart characters"
02/19/2013 12:38:33 PST ·
onyx:
OKay. I almost edited all of them out in my last article. Missed a couple of em, dang it. Also, I see my errors in posting articles. I can't do it the FR way. Here, I have to post the title first, before anything else,

What does the "embed" link above the word "comment" do? I don't want to experiment by clicking on it, it may embed me on this page.
02/19/2013 12:56:24 PST ·
Jim Robinson:
Onyx: when you click on the link to post an article and the form comes up, click the link entitled "Click here for additional source or embedded photo or video input fields" and it'll open up the rest of the "article source" form fields for you.
02/19/2013 13:2:20 PST ·
humblegunner:
If you have anything in your hand or in your pocket, DO NOT click "embed".
In fact, if there is ANY metal or plastic on your person, avoid EMBED at all costs.
Likewise if you are hanging out with Justin Bieber.
True story.

Syncro: Go ahead and post into the embed field. We have one of those fancy new 3-d printers installed and it will print a clone of you.

On the other hand...
02/19/2013 13:6:2 PST ·

OKay Jim, but I have to first post the article's title That's the reason, I was getting the "NO TITLE." At FR, I post everything else before I add the title. Yes, I'm weird.

Bear down near the Smokies got his half wit head stuck in a mayonnaise jar. IIRC, they stunned him and got the jar off after a few days.

LOL!

Smashed his foot up pretty bad, couldn't walk or work for months.
Came around the corner at 60mph and there was the bear galloping across the road.
The kid looked him in the eye and then bam...killed the bear instantly and he managed to fishtail long enough so he could live through it with the mashed up foot and some pretty gnarly road rash...which is just a minor annoyance to him as he is a dirt bike rider also.

I was flying over his place on my majik carpet and took this picture.

His dirt track looks just like a bear!
