Watched both versions recently on Netflix, both are instant view. Liked 'em both. Glenn Campbell was even pretty good as a "Texas Brush Popper".. although I thought he portrayed the role with a dash of teh ghey. Some Texas Rangers were a bit poltroonish in days of yore.
Speaking of Netflix, here's one I enjoyed on instant view: The Edge. The goings on in a work camp in Siberia in 1945. Russian language, but with subtitles.

I'll check it out. Maybe this evening. I didn't know one could link to instant view stuff on Netflix. I guess if everyone involved has an account it works. Sucker fired right up.
TheOldLady:
We watched the Jeff Bridges version of True Grit not long ago as well. Not John Wayne, indeed.

Hello, dearest Lady! No John Wayne, but fun to watch anyway. Jeff Bridges did a better job than I thought he would.

Jeff Bridges always does a good job, and he almost hit "John Wayne" heights, however, nobody but The Duke is John Wayne.

Test - fixed the bug that didn't become apparent until you clicked on the see all xx comments and there was no comment box at the end of the list. Worse, there was some comments included from the next post. It was a misplaced /div tag and some errant code. Hope this ends up on the correct thread,.
Loved the old hymns in the sound track. I'm a grizzled old vet old , but my eyes got blurry.

Likewise for Matt Damon.
I'm unable to see that guy and not remember the parody of him in "Team America" where he just keeps repeating his name.
