Working on a routine today to display who likes the posts. And when I get it in, will adapt it to display the ping lists on posts. Currently displaying the entire list each time.

Also, hoping to build a notify system so you can be notified when someone likes your posts.

Unless you messed with it, it now seems to be working after a page refresh.

"Hmmm, clicking on comment doesn't seem to do anything."
Sorry about that. The "comment" link sets the ping to name in the comment form (see the form below). Also sets the internal "comment to" seq number which will be used later. When I finish this "comment" routine, the new comment form will open up immediately below the comment you're replying to. Currently, it's at the bottom of the list of comments. And when completely finished, if you or a reader hovers or clicks on the "to:" in the ping to line above the comment, it will display the comment you replied to.

Also, we'll have a "View comments" link which will display a list of all replies to a comment.

Hey Trish! Met another FReeper in waiting today. He was in the 101st Airborne, lives rurally and wants a Jefferson, Adams or Madison in DC. Oh! And he owns guns. We agreed that he's dangerous so I told him about FR. :-)

Now working on the notify routine for likes and have discovered a flaw in my design. I thought I was simplifying things by putting likes for comments and likes for posts in different tables. It did, but, oops. Makes notify quite a bit trickier. Think I'm going to back up and restructure that table. May be a bit messy until I get it all worked out. If I break something, will try to recover as quickly as possible.

Now structuring an overall notify table to include/allow/report notifications for actions like post, comment, ping, like, tag, invite, request, join, unjoin, accept, reject, send, reply, ignore, boot, block, unblock, follow, unfollow, vote, editvote, updatepage, publish, unpublish, public, private, etc. on objects like user, page, post, comment, album, photo, message, chat session, poll where applicable.

Users can be notified on actions by themselves or by others on objects they own, control or follow.

Oops, including too many items here, Cannot notify in real-time for all likes, pings, posts, votes, follows, etc. Will swamp the db. A user can easily click to get a list of posts by users or on posts, pages, polls, etc, he's following. Info doesn't have to be stored in the notify table. Will cut this back a bit.

Maybe one table for like and ping notifications and another for invite/accept, request/accept, join/unjoin. Albums, mail, chat, polls and tags remain in their separate tables, info available by click. Posts and comments by click on latest, etc, and boot, block, ignore and other user/page admin tasks separate as needed.
Like if you like.
Well, apparently it doesn't like to be clicked:
The requested URL /cgi-bin/Like if you like. was not found on this server.
And now it works.

So I removed the default name in the "to" field and added Jim Robinson.
Did it again, didn't put any name in last time
Added Jim Robinson to Mr. Default. Let's see wha hoppens
Just left in Mr. Default....lets wee if I am still posting to air
separated with semi colon instead of comma. To humblegunner, jim robinson

All right, sounds good!
I just added names or repeated the one in there
Lots to look forward to!
